Jim Sheffield

I became involved in Real Estate when I was in college. A professor approached me about an internship with a local developer. During my internship and at the age of twenty (20), I obtained my real estate license.

Later, while working for McLean’s Trucking in their executive training program, I was attending school part time and selling homes too. After two (2) semesters, I realized I couldn’t continue at that pace. I took the next semester off and focused on selling homes. During this time I made more in real estate than my annual salary with McClean. Seeing the profitability in real estate, I resigned from McClean and have been in real estate since.

I started selling residential homes, then moved on to residential development, residential construction and finally into commercial land sales, leasing, property management and shopping center development. I have always enjoyed a challenge and have a strong desire to succeed. Given all of my success in the real estate industry, the CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) was the golden carrot, the last goal I wanted to achieve before retiring. CCIM requires a very extensive and exclusive level of knowledge. There are only nine thousand CCIM’s worldwide. In 2004 I accomplished this goal.

I started working out at American Family Fitness, and it was then that I met not only Jim McQuagge, but also my wife Kathi. She was employed as the assistant manager. Kathi was the top sales producer for the entire club. Jim and I have been friends for many years. Through-out the course of our friendship, we discussed construction, real estate and club operations. I helped Jim with the construction of two (2) of his clubs.

I continue to pursue an active, healthy lifestyle, as does my wife. Kathi is still involved with American Family Fitness. She is currently the Director of Special Events. She has certificates with AFFA, LesMills, Yoga Fit, Reebok and LeMond. We share a love for the fitness industry.

With my passion for the fitness industry, my experience in commercial lease negotiation including those for health club facilities, I felt Taft Consulting offered me the opportunity to use my experience to help others prosper in an industry I love. For me, there is something special in giving a hand to someone regardless of their race or religion and watching them prosper through the years.
